NEW CONSTRUCTION
|
Remember when homes were built with craftsmanship and quality? It seems that the era of large developers and local track builders has changed what is acceptable as a standard of quality. Most homeowners assume that all home builders are the same because they all have to build to the same building codes. It is imperative that anyone considering having a home built for them understand that the building codes are the MINIMUM STANDARDS. Most builders today build to the minimum standards and call it quality. This is simply an unacceptable standard for anyone who is considering making the largest investment of their life. Before you have a new home built, take a few days to tour some of the homes in your area for sale that have been built by these "quality builders". Go through each home with the mindset of finding faults. You will be amazed at how many crooked walls, crooked ceilings, un-level floors, misplaced plumbing connections and pressed board moldings you can find if you just look closely. If true quality is important to you, then please contact us.

Wood rot/ Water damage/ Mold |
Water damage and wood rot accounts for nearly half of our business. Living in Eastern North Carolina, you know that the humidity in the summer, along with hurricanes and tropical storms can produce leaks in your home over time. This is especially true if you have a vinyl siding home. We find that the number one cause of wood rot in our area is caused by a simple mistake, either when the home was built or a previous repair was made. Improperly installed vinyl siding trim and improperly installed flashing are the cause 90% of the time. Most of the time, it can be traced to the previous contractor not flashing the area properly, if at all. It is imperative to understand that vinyl siding is not a 100% waterproof siding. That is the reason there are weep holes in the bottom edge of the vinyl siding. It is designed to drain the water that will get behind the vinyl siding. Some builders in our area use a water resistant house wrap behind the vinyl siding, but most do not in an effort to save money. We also find that alot of windows are not flashed properly, if at all- again in an effort to save money. This very minor expense during the construction process can lead to major repair bills later on. This can also lead to mold inside of your home and eventually in the air you breathe. If you have a water leak or mold issue, give us a call. If you are seeing mold, regardless of the size, then there is a problem. We will come to your home and perform a free assessment. We will also pinpoint where the issue is and provide you humidity readings in that area. Not only will we fix the water leak/ wood rot issue, but will take the necessary steps to ensure that it does not return.
